Practice Lead - L/S Equities
Buy-Side Retained Search | Hedge Funds | Portfolio Manager Hiring
We’re working with a buy-side retained search firm that already has a highly successful equities practice deep relationships, consistent mandates, and real credibility across the hedge fund space.
They’re now looking to bring in a senior hire to lead and expand their US Long/Short equities vertical.
The position
You’ll be stepping into an environment where:
- Equities is already a core revenue driver
- There are established relationships with top-tier hedge funds
- Mandates are retained, high-value, and often tied to strategic hires
- You have delivery support and infrastructure around you
- Your role is to take that foundation and push it further across the US L/S market.
What you’ll actually be doing
- Leading the US L/S equities practice and setting direction
- Partnering directly with hedge fund founders, CIOs, and senior PMs
- Delivering retained searches for portfolio managers and investment teams
- Expanding existing client relationships and deepening market penetration
- Playing a role in broader conversations – team builds, new strategies, fund launches
- There’s also exposure to capital introduction activity – connecting top PMs with allocators for SMA and seeding opportunities.

Comp & structure
- 50% commission

- Strong track record placing into hedge funds, ideally L/S equities
- Established relationships across PMs, analysts, and fund leadership
- Someone who can operate credibly at the top end of the market
- Comfortable in a retained, consultative model
- Capital introduction exposure is useful, not essential.
